4 How to use this book
First of all, please note that we will use the acronym HHG to refer to the Hitchhiker’s Guide for PSGY1001.
The HHG is an online book created using an open-source authoring and publishing system called Quarto. Among other outputs, Quarto can create online books in HTML format.1 A very useful feature of Quarto HTML books is that they are searchable. Please make ample use of the search feature available in the upper left corner of the window (when using a laptop or desktop computer; on mobile devices, the search icon is in the upper right corner):
Note the abbrevations in the table of contents and chapter headings. These abbreviations have the following meanings:
- [A-F]: Assessment (formative).
- [A-S]: Assessment (summative).
- [I-C]: Independent reading (compulsory).
- [I-O]: Independent reading (optional).
Finally, note that the most current version of the HHG will always be available at this link: https://psychology.nottingham.ac.uk/staff/lpzjd/psgy1001
If you would like to access the version of HHG that was current when you were in Year 1 in future academic years, modify the link by adding the year in which you started like this: https://psychology.nottingham.ac.uk/staff/lpzjd/psgy1001-24
We hope that by publishing the HHG in HTML format, it will be more easily accessible, e.g. to vision-impaired or dyslexic students.
